Executive Summary:
Engage Surrey seeks to provide a relationship-based prevention and intervention to children at the point of arrest where it is proven that children and families have a ‘teachable, reachable moment’. The Engage team, based within the Youth Justice Team will offer a duty system to cover 10am – 10pm at Guildford custody suite as an active research approach to understanding and evaluating the impact of meeting every child detained in the custody.
Applications for the Grant
Funding is sought to deliver a 6 month pilot at a single (Guildford) Police Custody Suite offering a duty rota of youth work practitioners (supported by a duty manager) available to offer an engagement within the custody suite at the point of arrest between 10.00 and 22.00 hours. Trained practitioners, located in or close to the Guildford custody suite, will have the flexibility to ensure a rapid response to all the children detained at the Guildford suite.
