28/2024-25 – Children and Young People Fund application

For 2024/25 the Police and Crime Commissioner has made available £275,000 for the Children and Young People Fund which is a dedicated resource to support activities and groups who work with children and young people across Surrey to stay safe. 

Active Surrey – Friday Night Projects 

To award Active Surrey funding towards sustainability payments to six existing Friday Night Projects (FNP) which are multi-sport drop-in sessions for young people in Surrey aged between 11 and 18.  

The Haslemere Youth Hub – Boxing Club  

To award the Haslemere Youth Hub funding to run a boxing club for young people aged 10-16 for one year. In a structured and supportive environment, they will offer boxing training, pad work, mentorship and educational workshops. 

Buddy Up – Mentoring  

To award Buddy Up funding towards the cost of a part-time contract for one of their mentors to deliver mentoring for the full next term (January 2025 – April 2025) in Epsom & Ewell.  

The Commissioner supports these applications to the Children and Young People Fund and awards;  

  • £28,070 to Active Surrey to provide sustainability payments to six Friday Night Projects; 
  • £5,000 to the Haselmere Youth Hub for their Boxing Club;  
  • £4,320 to Buddy Up for a part time mentor in Epsom & Ewell.

Consultation  

Consultation has taken place with appropriate lead officers depending on the application. All applications have been asked to supply evidence of any consultation and community engagement.  

Financial implications  

All applications have been asked to confirm the organisation hold accurate financial information. They are also asked to include the total costs of the project with breakdown where the money will be spent; any additional funding secured or applied for and plans for on-going funding. The Community Safety Fund Decision Panel/ Community Safety and Victims policy officers considers the financial risks and opportunities when looking at each application.

Legal advice is taken on an application by application basis.  

Risks  

The Community Safety Fund Decision Panel and policy officers considers any risks in the allocation of funding. It is also part of the process to consider when refusing an application the service delivery risks if appropriate.
