Clean Sheet – Reducing Reoffending Through Employment
Brief overview of service/decision – To uplift the funding for and award £35,000 to Clean Sheet. The ‘Reducing Reoffending through Employment’ project provides tailored remote employment support to people with convictions who are living or resettling from prison into Surrey.
Reason for funding – 1) The reduction of re-offending – research shows that people with convictions who find work after prison are less likely to reoffend, and people with convictions face continued and systemic barriers when applying for work which they can struggle to overcome by themselves. The project will help to divert people with convictions away from the ‘revolving door of offending’ through providing tailored employment support to help them to find work.
2) To protect people from harm in Surrey – this project will help to reduce future victims of crime and protect people from harm in Surrey. Through the project, they will support people with convictions to overcome the barriers they face when trying to find work so that they persevere (rather than risk going back to crime) and help them to develop a positive social identity in which they contribute to society.
