The Police and Crime Commissioner for Surrey Lisa Townsend said: “I am deeply saddened by the terrible death of the 10-year-old girl that took place in Woking this week and my thoughts are with all those affected at what must be an incredibly difficult time.
“The death of any child is a tragedy and will have been particularly heart-breaking for the local community. Residents will understandably feel shocked this has taken place where they live and our police teams will continue to have a presence in the local area in the coming days to support them with any concerns.
“I know detectives are working hard carrying out a number of enquiries to build up a picture of what took place and I have offered any support my office can give.”
